Requirements/Overview

Age: Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have graduated from high school or equivalent at time of appointment. Experience/Education:

  • Must be a full-time, regular, non-probationary Firefighter (or higher fire suppression rank) with a public fire agency, authority or department that provides all risk Fire/EMS services ?OR- must have been a full-time, regular, non-probationary Firefighter (or higher fire suppression rank) who was laid off between July 1, 2008 and present, from a public fire agency, authority or department that provides all risk Fire/EMS services (proof MUST be provided that shows laid off status). Paid call, extra-help and/or volunteer experience does not qualify.
  • Must possess and maintain a California State Paramedic License. Individuals certified in San Bernardino County (ICEMA) prior to employment will be given placement priority.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class "C" Driver's License (or higher).
  • Must have a California State Fire Marshals (SFM) Firefighter I (FFI) Certificate or California State Fire Marshal accredited Firefighter Academy.
  • DMV Printout-Driving Record to include ticket and accident history (printed within the last six months).
  • Current CPAT test, timed Biddle test (tests must have been taken within the last twelve months) or proof of enrollment in a CPAT or timed Biddle test with proof of successful completion by time of hire.
  • Must have and maintain a current CPR and ACLS Certification

    Items to be attached to application without exception:

  • San Bernardino County Fire/Special Districts Application
  • Current DMV Printout-Driving Record to include ticket and accident history (printed within the last 6 months)
  • Current State of California Paramedic License; ICEMA Accreditation if applicable
  • Current CPAT, Biddle or proof of enrollment
  • Current CPR Certificate
  • Current ACLS Certificate
  • Copy of valid class "C" Driver's License
  • State Fire Marshal accredited Fire Academy Certificate, Firefighter I Certificate

    The Selection Process: Applicants meeting or exceeding the minimum requirements will be invited to participate in the Ergometrics Video Based Testing (three components: Human Relations, Mechanical Ability and Reading) the week of November 23, 2009. A select number of applicants with the top scores will be invited to participate in a paramedic assessment the week of December 7, 2009. The San Bernardino County Fire Department Tower is scheduled to start on February 15, 2010.
